Indonesia Smart Home, Building and City Projects - A Movement to 100 Smart Cities

Indonesia, Southeast Asia's biggest economy, is trying to lure investors for a $450 billion infrastructure drive to boost its economy. Indonesia not only has a large population (over 260 million inhabitants) but is also characterized having a rapid expanding middle class. Together, these two factors create a powerful consumer force. Those middle class began to spend in smart living products and technologies. Most of apartment, hotel, office, hospital, plant and building are moving to smart technology for safety reason.  Based on Statista, revenue in the Smart Home market amounts to USD 39.7 billion in 2016. Revenue is expected to show an annual growth rate (CAGR 2016-2020) of 43.32% resulting in a market volume of USD 167.7 billion in 2020.
With nearly 70 percent of the country's population expected to live in cities by 2025, the public and private sectors must come up with innovative ways to allow citizens to benefit from this rapid transition, lest they further succumb to traffic congestion, pollution, or disasters resulting from past underinvestment in cities. The smart city concept offers a new approach for some of Indonesia's major cities, which have undergone significant growth, but it can also benefit others in the archipelago to prepare them for the expected population growth.

Indonesia - A Movement to 100 SMART CITIES by 2019
has been launched by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Republic of Indonesia, starting from 25 cities and regencies selected to be in this program.
Indonesia must also consider its increasingly well-connected citizens, especially as the number of smartphone users in the archipelago is expected to grow from 55.4 million in 2015 to 92 million by 2019, according to market research company eMarketer.
Smartphone usage will be closely linked to the development of smart city technologies. Research conducted by The Economist's intelligence unit under the title "Empowering Cities," highlights the importance of engaging citizens through advances in digital technology to provide a steady flow of feedback and ideas to city officials that are crucial to shaping a city in which all stakeholders have a voice.
